The Works! is an installation by Art 4014, Advanced Drawing and Painting.
Participants: Yana Artemov, Carrie Boreo, Cecilia Chi, Mahima Dabburi, Sumner Dobrava, Kaily Drake, Jurell Flewellen, Abigail Ford, Luke Frenzel, Nicholas Gribben, Grace Lipkin, Mallory Plinke, George Rush, Amadea Villanueva, Tori Warnock, Bryan Zima.
The rules for installation were developed by the class and are as follows:
A) Students will draw numbers from a hat. In order, starting with #1, students will place their works around the gallery. The initial placement doesn't need to be exact (i.e. hanging can be rough or provisional, initially).
B) Students will draw numbers from a hat. In order, starting with #1, students will add, rearrange, remove, replace, works. All moves are allowed except for the destruction or damage or disrespect of work.
C) Students will vote whether to have a third round of intervention. If yes, then installation will proceed with drawing numbers from a hat. If no, then work will be hung more securely.
D) Repeat until finished.
Notes:
Tables and all walls may be used.
Students may move other students' work or their own.
Students may only remove their own work from the gallery.
There is no wrong placement or move.
Objects of inclusion may be finished works, studies, sketches, ephemera, writing, photos, old work, source material, parts of the studio, etc. Anything, really.
Objects may be hung conventionally or unconventionally.
No pre-planning; the exhibition must come together in the time allowed and hanging procedure (drawing numbers, etc.) must continue until the show is deemed good enough for the public.
